Belarus sends humanitarian aid to Syria
February 12, BPN. Belarus sent humanitarian aid to Syria in response to the earthquake, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said on February 12.
“Last night, an aircraft with humanitarian cargo on board flew to the Syrian airport of Latakia,” it said in a press release. “Food, medicine, essentials and clothes weighing a total of over 25 tons will be delivered to Syria by Belarusian rescuers led by First Deputy Minister Alaksandr Chudalejeŭ on the air transport of the Ministry of Defense.”
The magnitude 7.8 quake struck in Turkey on February 6. In the next few days, seismologists registered at least 150 aftershocks, and in the last 24 hours there were at least two temblors, with a magnitude of 7.6 and 7.7.
A Belarusian woman, her 11-year-old son, four-year-old daughter and husband died in the earthquake in Turkey. The woman’s body and that of her daughter were pulled out of the rubble on February 10.
The same day, three Belarusian women with children were evacuated from Turkey by a defense ministry’s aircraft.
On February 11, media reported that the bodies of Belarusian Alaksandra Akpinar and her son were pulled out of the rubble in the Hatay Province. Her husband Kemal had died in hospital a few days before.
