Joining Russia’s war on Ukraine to end Łukašenka’s regime – Polish president
February 20, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka understands that going to war against Ukraine will mean his inevitable end, Polish President Andrzej Duda told Ukraine’s 1+1 TV channel.
If Łukašenka makes Belarusians go to war and shed blood for a cause they consider shameful, they will turn against him, Duda said. Belarusian authorities would not be able to control the situation, as they have been doing lately using terror and political persecution.
Belarusians are peaceful people, but Poland is prepared for anything from the Belarusian regime that rigged elections, usurped power and is persecuting dissenters, Duda stressed.
The recent conviction of journalist and Polish minority activist Andrzej Poczobut (Andrej Pačobut) to eight years in prison is a clear violation of all international norms and an obvious demonstration of the regime’s control over the judiciary, he said.
Poland strives for good relations with its neighbors, the Polish leader said, dismissing Russian and Belarusian propaganda claims that his country seeks to seize parts of Belarus and Ukraine. He cited the European Union’s border-free travel as a model for future relations with both countries.
