Deputy foreign minister discusses Ukraine with head of UN office in Geneva
February 28, BPN. Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Juryj Ambrazievič and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) Tatiana Valovaya had a meeting in the Swiss city on February 27.
The Belarusian foreign ministry said on its website that Ambrazievič and Valovaya “reaffirmed their belief that degradation of the international security system should be counteracted by strengthening multilateral institutions and negotiating platforms.”
The Belarusian diplomat stressed that the conflict in Ukraine can only be settled in a peaceful way.
Valovaya “welcomed Belarus’ constructive contribution to the regional and global security,” the foreign ministry said.
On February 24, Belarus voted against the UN General Assembly resolution demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine and calling for peace.
The resolution received overwhelming support from 141 countries, including Afghanistan, Serbia, Moldova and Georgia, with 32 abstentions, among them China.
