Israeli embassy in Minsk suspends work over strike
March 27, BPN. The Embassy of Israel in Belarus has suspended its work due to a nationwide strike.
It said on Facebook that the strike, initiated in Israel by the trade union umbrella group Histadrut, applied to state institutions, including diplomatic missions.
Consular services will not be provided until after the strike ends, the embassy said.
For months, thousands of Israelis have been protesting against judicial reforms proposed by the government of Benjamin Netanyahu. The overhaul would give the parties in power more control over the country’s judiciary, media said.
Israeli embassies in several other countries, healthcare workers, teachers, banks, universities, stores, restaurants, some officials, as well as employees at the major Ben-Gurion Airport and the ports in Haifa and Ashdod, joined the general strike.
