Poland arrests alleged Belarusian spy

March 27, BPN. The Polish Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW) reported the arrest of a “foreigner working for the Belarusian secret services.”

The arrest was made on March 1 thanks to “information from military counterintelligence,” the office of the special services coordinator said on March 27.

“The suspect conducted reconnaissance of objects important for the security of the Republic of Poland, including those related to the Polish Armed Forces,” it added.

The man was charged with espionage for the benefit of Belarusian intelligence, it said. The District Court of Lublin preliminary sentenced him to three months in jail.

According to the SKW, since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Polish authorities have detained 20 people suspected of cooperation with Russian or Belarusian intelligence.
