Over 2,000 EU-bound trucks queuing at border – Belarus’ border authorities

March 30, BPN. Almost 2,100 trucks were queuing at the Belarusian-EU border as of 10 am on March 30, the Belarusian State Border Committee said.

Over 960 trucks were waiting to leave for Lithuania with over 510 trucks at the Medininkai-Kamenny Łoh border crossing and 390 at Šalčininkai-Beniakoni.

More than 1,000 trucks were waiting for clearance at Kukuryki-Kazłovičy, the only checkpoint at the Belarusian-Polish border that handles trucks.

Belarusian officials have repeatedly accused authorities in the neighboring countries of slowing down work, while the EU countries linked longer processing times to illegal migration from Belarus.

Poland closed the key Bobrowniki checkpoint earlier last month after a Belarusian court had sentenced Polish minority activist Andrzej Poczobut to eight years in prison. Belarus responded by restricting traffic for Polish lorries and tractor trucks.

On February 21, Poland blocked traffic of Belarusian trucks at the Kukuryki-Kazłovičy checkpoint. The decision by Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński came in response to restrictions imposed by the Belarusian authorities on Polish carriers.
