Cichanoŭskaja: Belarusians oppose nuclear deployment
April 6, BPN. Opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has said Belarusians stand against the upcoming deployment of Russian nuclear weapons and urged allies to react strongly to this development.
“We know the Belarusians’ position on the deployment of nuclear weapons: this is against the Constitution, against the will of the Belarusians. And, of course, we would like to see a sharper reaction, so to speak, from our friendly countries, because we have been warning about this problem for a long time,” she said in an interview with LRT Russian.
She says that Alaksandr Łukašenka’s complete dependence on Vladimir Putin is obvious to Belarusians. But it would be extremely challenging for them to stage rallies of protest in the current situation.
“I think that Belarus is already demonstrating the strength of mind in the current circumstances: our partisans, who may now face the death penalty for acts of sabotage, are still staging them, because we have to show that we are against the war, that we are for Ukraine, that we are against Łukašenka, that we are for a new, European Belarus,” Cichanoŭskaja said.
