Połack museum worker fired while in jail

April 15, BPN. Authorities fired Tamara Džumantajeva, head of the research and exhibition department at the Połatsk Historical and Cultural Museum, Viciebsk region, while she was in jail, a source told BPN.

On March 29 and 30, police arrested more than 10 residents of Połack and Navapołack, including Džumantajeva and photographers Ihar Supranionak and Kirył Smalakoŭ. Some were forced to part with their equipment and freed only to stand trial at a later date, while Džumantajeva, Supranionak and Smalakoŭ were jailed for 15 days for sharing opposition content. 

On April 10, authorities jailed museum researcher Ihar Bortnik for 13 more days after he had served a 10-day term. He was accused of violating the procedure for holding mass events. On the following day, Supranionak too was given another 15 days in jail.
