Authorities block local website labeled extremist
May 4, BPN. Belarusian authorities have blocked access to Intex-Press, a local news website, the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.
Prosecutors said the Baranavičy-based website violated the media law many times. It cast the country’s social and political situation in a bad light and discredited law-enforcement agencies, they said.
Last week, a judge labeled Intex-Press and its social media “extremist” content.
Having warned the readers that subscribing and linking to its social media may lead to penalties, including jail time, the editorial team stopped posting updates.
Authorities had already blocked access to Intex-Press in December 2021, claiming that it published prohibited information. In February 2023, the information ministry unblocked it, saying that it was no longer in breach of the law.
