Belarus to find its true home in EU after liberation – Lithuania’s PM

May 10, BPN. Belarus, along with many other states in the region, will eventually become a part of Europe, Lithuania’s Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said on the occasion of Europe Day on May 9.

Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and even Belarus, finally freed from the dictatorship, will find their true home in Europe, LRT reported citing the politician.

For some time, Europe has lacked the courage that it has now, Šimonytė noted. It has finally learned its history lessons that freedom and democratic values must be defended every day, she added.

Cooperation with authoritarian regimes offering cheap gas, oil, and investments lead to dangerous consequences, the politician stressed.

Lithuania has been consistently supporting democratic changes in Belarus and helping many Belarusians facing politically-motivated persecution at home, including Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja whose office is located in Vilnius.
