Troops on high alert after Russian planes crash near Ukraine – Łukašenka

May 15, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has said his troops are on high alert after four Russian aircraft crashed near the border with Ukraine.

Łukašenka made the remarks during a visit to the air defense command post, according to his press office.

He said the situation around Belarus was not critical but there were “alarming factors.”

Russian media said two helicopters, a bomber and a fighter jet crashed last week in the Bryansk province, 50 kilometers off Ukraine, due to interference from Ukrainian air defenses. Ukraine has not confirmed this claim.

Łukašenka had repeatedly claimed that Ukraine and NATO were planning to attack Belarus. On April 28, he toned down his rhetoric during a trip to Vietka, Homiel region. “No one is going to attack us, including the Ukrainians,” he said.
