Belarus accuses international community of politicizing children issue

May 16, BPN. A senior Belarusian diplomat has said that the issue of children is becoming increasingly politicized on the international agenda, according to the foreign ministry’s press office.

This includes “the Belarusian practice of accepting children from abroad for recuperation in summer camps,” Deputy Foreign Minister Juryj Ambrazievič said in a meeting with UNICEF officials in Minsk.

The foreign ministry pointed out “effective cooperation” between Belarus and UNICEF to help Ukrainian refugee children from 2014 to the present.

The Belarusian opposition said it was collecting evidence of Minsk’s involvement in the displacement of Ukrainian kids by Russians, an alleged war crime.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution calling on the international community to support the prosecution of Alaksandr Łukašenka for his role in the displacement.
