Polish diplomat calls for sanctions on Belarus over deportation of Ukrainian children

May 17, BPN. Andrzej Sados, Poland’s permanent representative to the European Union, informed other EU diplomats of the Belarusian authorities’ involvement in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, PAP reported.

Sados called for new sanctions against Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime citing a report from Pavieł Łatuška of the National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM) that accused Łukašenka of illegally transferring Ukrainian children from Ukraine’s occupied territories to summer camps in Belarus. One such camp is reportedly run by the Belarusian potash giant Belaruskali.

Belarusian Paralympian and Łukašenka supporter Alaksiej Tałaj is reportedly involved in the deportation of Ukrainian children along with a Donetsk-based association.

The NAM is collecting documents and evidence of Minsk’s involvement in the displacement of children from Ukraine.

Two months ago, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin, accusing him of the alleged war crime of deportation of children from Ukraine. The Belarusian opposition is seeking a similar warrant for Alaksandr Łukašenka.
