Belarusian regiment suffers losses in Ukraine’s Bakhmut

May 17, BPN. The Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment’s Vołat battalion has suffered losses during an operation in the Bakhmut area, a spokeswoman for the regiment has said.

In a video released today, Kryścina Stankievič (call sign Čabor) said: “Unfortunately, one soldier was killed. Four others are considered missing, but they are definitely not in captivity.”

She did not provide details of the operation or the names of the casualties, citing security reasons.

“We are in contact with the relatives of the dead and missing soldiers. Several other fighters were wounded to varying degrees. Their lives are no longer in danger. That was a hard day for the entire Belarusian people, not only for the Kalinoŭski regiment,” she said.

The regiment was formed in March 2022 by Belarusian volunteers who want to free their country from authoritarian rule by helping Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression. Belarusian authorities have opened criminal cases against them and said they have identified almost 200 Belarusians fighting in Ukraine.

Three days earlier, Čabor said that several Litvin battalion soldiers had been wounded.
