Łukašenka trying to pit CSTO partners against West

May 18, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has urged Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) partners to unite in resisting the West.

Western politicians are re-dividing the world, he claimed at a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Minsk, accusing the West of preparing for war.

The West is escalating international tensions despite the “rapid decline in living standards and deteriorating economic prospects in European countries,” he added.

“We are in the center of this attention,” Łukašenka’s press office quoted him as saying. “Therefore, we need to stick together. This is our policy and we offer it to you. I think that there is no alternative to preserve the sovereignty and independence of our states.”

Finland’s recent NATO membership and Sweden’s NATO bid put the world on the brink of a global conflict with Ukraine being the major battlefield, he went on to say.

Belarus has chaired the loose Russia-led military bloc since November 2022. It also includes Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
