Minsk looking to boost sales in Africa
May 18, BPN. Belarus is well aware of the African countries’ needs in Belarusian “machinery, technologies and expertise,” Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik said following the May 17 meeting with his Ugandan counterpart Jeje Odongo in Moscow.
Alejnik pledged to actively develop both economic and political cooperation referring to Africa as “a pillar of a multipolar world,” the foreign ministry quoted him as saying.
The sides also reportedly discussed infrastructure, healthcare industry, information technologies and agriculture.
“We have something to offer in all areas,” Alejnik stressed.
Belarus and Uganda established diplomatic relations in October 1998. In 2021, trade between the two countries totaled $29.3 million, with $28.7 million being exports from Belarus.
In March, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) ranked Belarus 20th of the 25 largest exporters of major arms and their main recipients. It listed Serbia, Vietnam and Uganda among the top three buyers of Belarusian arms.
