Talks with Indian, Cuban, Burmese defense officials held at arms exhibition

May 18, BPN. A Belarusian defense official has met with military representatives of several countries to discuss the current world situation and bilateral ties.

The meetings took place on the sidelines of the MILEX-2023 arms and military equipment exhibition in Minsk, the defense ministry said in a statement.

Valeryj Ravienka, head of the ministry’s international military cooperation department and defense minister’s aide, talked with Naveen Nijhawan, military attaché at the Indian embassy in Russia and Belarus, about cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and bilaterally. They also shared views on international and regional security issues.

Ravienka also met with Mónica Milián Gómez, military attaché at the Cuban embassy in Russia and Belarus, to discuss the military and political situation in the region and the world. The ministry said the meeting aimed to strengthen the partnership and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries’ defense offices.

Additionally, Ravienka and Myanmar’s Deputy Defense Minister Aung Lin Tun exchanged views on relevant issues of the international agenda and reviewed the current state, potential and prospects for the development of bilateral military cooperation.

In February, Ravienka told foreign military attachés that Belarus faces “direct threats to military security.” “These threats are connected with the accelerated large-scale militarization of the European continent and the gradual build-up of foreign military presence near our borders,” he said.
