US bans exports of over 1,200 items to Russia and Belarus amid Ukraine crisis

May 19, BPN. The US Department of Commerce has curbed exports of 1,224 types of industrial items to Russia and Belarus.

It said the new curbs “are intended to further undermine the Russian and Belarusian industrial bases and their ability to continue to support Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine.”

The banned items range from nuclear reactors and gas turbines to sunglasses, electric hair dryers and dishwashing machines.

In March, the United States imposed sanctions on Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) and Belarusian Automobile Plant (BiełAZ), the new central election commission and the Boeing 737 aircraft used by Alaksandr Łukašenka. It also slapped visa restrictions on 14 members of the Belarusian regime.
