Alejnik: Belarus, Nicaragua share foreign policy principles

May 19, BPN. Belarus and Nicaragua have similar foreign policy principles and approaches, Belarusian Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik has said after meeting with Nicaraguan counterpart Denis Moncada in Minsk.

Alejnik said the two countries support each other at the United Nations and work together in the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter. He thanked Nicaragua for backing Belarus’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

The ministers also discussed expanding their legal framework and boosting economic cooperation. Alejnik said they were close to finalizing agreements on trade, investment and visa abolition.

He said a Nicaraguan delegation would visit Belarus soon to negotiate with industrial enterprises on supplying Belarusian equipment to Nicaragua.

The two countries established diplomatic ties in 1994 and have maintained friendly relations since then. Alaksandr Łukašenka met with Moncada today and explored ways to enhance cooperation in various fields.
