Cichanoŭskaja to seek aid for Belarusian exiles at PACE

May 22, BPN. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja will speak about assistance to exiled Belarusians at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg on June 20, her aide Franak Viačorka has told BPN.

The politician has already met with Luxembourg’s PACE member Paul Galles on several occasions, including during her recent visit to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. In January, Galles was appointed responsible for preparing the report addressing challenges for Belarusians in exile.

On May 12, the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons used the report to offer advice on facilitating legal entry, travel and stay in the European Union for exiled Belarusians and their families. It also listed steps to ensure their protection from politically-motivated persecution as well as recommendations for accessing financial services and starting a business.
