Lithuania to step up controls over sanctioned goods transported via Belarus, Russia

May 24, BPN. Starting June 5, Lithuania will tighten controls over exports of sanctioned goods to third countries, its customs department said.

Lithuanian authorities are suspecting sanctions evasion and linked the move to unusual rise in trade with certain third countries.

Businesses should ensure that sanctioned goods accepted for transportation would only be in transit via Belarus or Russia and not intended for use, sale or delivery to individuals and companies in both countries, it noted.

Customs officers will require additional documentation from suppliers to verify compliance and would be authorized to put suspicious shipments on hold.
