Two more Połack professors found guilty

May 25, BPN. A court in Navapołack, Viciebsk region, has found two associate professors of the Połack State University guilty on charges that are often used to silence regime critics.

It fined Halina Zacharkina, from the PSU’s architecture and design department, 2,960 rubels ($1,200) for unauthorized protesting and extremist propaganda. It also sentenced Siarhiej Hłazyryn, from the public administration department, to 15 days in jail for a social media post he made in 2020.

Over dozen PSU staff members were arrested in Połack and Navapołack earlier this week, including associate professors Halina Šarahłazava and Alona Chramcova, who were later sentenced to 10 days in jail for allegedly following social media outlets labeled by the government as extremist.
