Parliament slams sanctions, defends Soviet role in WWII

May 26, BPN. The Council of the Republic has praised the Soviets’ “heroic Victory” over fascism and condemned international sanctions as a show of racial superiority.

The United States and its allies have imposed sanctions on Belarus because they do not agree with violence by the government against its people.

The upper house of the Belarusian National Assembly said liberal democracies and the United Nations have turned a blind eye to racism, including language and religious discrimination, in apparent reference to neighbors’ efforts to assert  their national identities to counter Russian expansion.

It slammed Baltic politicians and some “Nazis” for erasing the truth about history. “Any attempts to disrespect historical memory and whitewash fascism” are a crime against humanity, it said, as quoted by its press office.

Russian and Belarusian propaganda promotes a false narrative that portrays Ukrainian politicians and soldiers as Nazis.
