May 28, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has said rising tension near Belarus’ borders requires the border service to be vigilant and selfless. He has also demanded “iron discipline” from the border guards.
The statement comes amid Belarus’ support for Russia’s war in Ukraine and migrant issues on its frontier with the European Union.
In his congratulatory message on Border Guards Day, the Belarusian ruler said the service will do everything to protect the boundaries, “fully justifying the love and trust of the Belarusian people.”
Meanwhile, Belarus’ border chief blamed Ukraine for flying drones into his country or vandalizing border infrastructure. Servicemen tolerate this, but “will respond with full force” to a real security threat, Anatol Łapo said today in an interview.
He also accused the European Union of harassing and not letting through migrants trying to enter from Belarus.
