Belarus court brands ex-candidate’s social media as extremist

May 31, BPN. The information ministry’s website shows that a district court in Homiel has declared social media accounts of former presidential candidate Valer Capkała extremist.

His wife Vieranika Capkała’s Instagram page, which has more than 25,000 followers, also received the same label.

Capkała fled Belarus in July 2020 to avoid persecution and was later joined by his wife and children. He was sentenced in absentia to 17 years in prison by Minsk Regional Court on April 7, 2023.
