Hrodna journalist faces trial on extremism charge

May 31, BPN. Pavieł Mažejka, a journalist and cultural manager in Hrodna, has been charged with promoting extremism and will stand trial soon, Hrodna.life reports.

Mažejka led a non-governmental organization called Center of Urban Life, which was shut down by the prosecutors last year.

The journalist spent three days in custody in March 2021, when he was detained with artist Aleś Puškin, who was later sentenced to five years in prison. Mažejka was rearrested on August 30, 2022.

The Belarusian Association of Journalists says 33 media professionals remain behind bars.
