MPs approve media bill targeting foreign journalists

May 31, BPN. The lower house of Belarus’ National Assembly has approved changes to the media law that aim to protect “national security” and “public interests” in the information sphere, according to a press release.

The amendments would regulate online news aggregators and their owners, clarify rules for foreign media outlets operating in Belarus, and allow for “reciprocal measures” against foreign journalists and media.

The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on March 30 and passed the first reading on April 18.
