Ukraine’s border guards record decrease of Russian troops in Belarus

June 3, BPN. The number of Russian troops in Belarus has decreased recently and is very small, Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service spokesman Andrii Demchenko has told journalists.

“Russia does not have enough forces in the territory of Belarus at the moment,” Suspіlne quoted the official as saying.

Ukraine’s defense forces boosted protections to prevent any new invasion or provocations from the Belarusian direction, he added.

Ukrainian border guards have not recorded any incidents or military equipment movements at the shared border with Belarus for quite a while , Demchenko said stressing that the situation is fully under control.

Russian troops arrive in Belarus as part of “scheduled rotation” of the regional group of forces, the Belarusian defense ministry said on June 2. It also announced that “another S-400 anti-aircraft missile system” was delivered from Russia.

Up to 2,500 Russian servicemen and 25 military air vehicles were stationed in Belarus in late May, according to Ukraine’s Joint Forces Commander Serhiy Nayev.

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine. Alaksandr Łukašenka admitted that Belarus participated in Russia’s war on Ukraine, but said it was “not killing anyone.”

Authorities in Minsk denied Belarusian army troops’ involvement in combat operations on the Russian side. However, Belarus allowed Russian troops and weapons to move freely through the country, use its airspace, refuel and store military equipment and attack Ukraine from its territory.
