Łukašenka calls on regional security chiefs to counteract sanctions together

June 8, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has urged officials of a regional defense bloc meeting in Minsk to counteract sanctions in a systemic way together, his press office reports.

Łukašenka said sanctions were a global threat. “Neither the Belarusians nor the Russians want you to fall under sanctions by cooperating with us,” he told Collective Security Treaty Organization security chiefs.

He said former Soviet countries were free to operate in the markets of the Middle East, the European Union and the United States, although in his opinion that was a difficult task, as long as they cared about a regional market.

“The economy is pushing us toward it. We must not lose that market,” he said.

The USA and the EU imposed sanctions on Minsk and Moscow for the war in Ukraine, to exert pressure on them to respect sovereignty and human rights.
