Israel slams appointment of Holocaust denier as head of Belarus’ national library
June 9, BPN. The Israeli foreign ministry has slammed the recent appointment of Vadzim Hihin as the head of the National Library of Belarus.
Spokesman Lior Haiat noted Hihin’s “antisemitic statements and the denial of the Holocaust on various occasions in the past.”
“The Diaspora Ministry’s 2021 antisemitism assessment report cited Vadzim Hihin as someone who contributed to the exclusion of Jewish remembrance, which is an essential part of Holocaust commemorations,” he tweeted.
Prior to his appointment as head of the National Library earlier this week, Hihin chaired the Znaniye society. He is a senior propaganda figure and a tried-and-true supporter of Alaksandr Łukašenka. A doctor of history, he features prominently in Belarusian state-run media outlets and often takes part in Russian propaganda talk shows.
