EU court rejects Belarusian officials’ appeals

June 12, BPN. The Court of Justice on June 7 rejected appeals by three Belarusian education officials who challenged the European Union’s decision to sanction them, according to the court’s website.

The EU punished Alaksandr Bachanovič, Siarhiej Rubnikovič and Siarhiej Skryba for their involvement in reprisals against Belarusian students.

Bachanovič, now a deputy education minister, headed Brest State Technical University when the sanctions were imposed in June 2021. Rubnikovič was and remains the rector of Belarusian State Medical University. Skryba serves as deputy rector at Belarus State Economic University.

Last week, BPN reported that the EU’s top court rejected a lawsuit by Alaksandr Šakucin, a Belarusian tycoon sanctioned in December 2020. He alleged errors in assessment by the EU Council.
