Belarus ranks ninth in price growth among ex-Soviet states

June 18, BPN. Belarus had the ninth-highest consumer price growth among former Soviet republics in the first five months of 2023, at 2.66 percent, according to BPN‘s analysis of statistics from national agencies. It was 2.95 percent and eighth place in January-April.

Moldova led with 4.95 percent, followed by Kazakhstan with 4.8 percent and Kyrgyzstan with 4.3 percent.

Estonia had 4 percent, Ukraine 3.8 percent, Uzbekistan 3.76 percent, Latvia 3.5 percent and Azerbaijan 3.1 percent.

Russia had a lower increase than Belarus, at 2.38 percent, as did Tajikistan with 2 percent and Lithuania with 1.8 percent. Georgia and Armenia saw price declines of 0.6 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively.

The average inflation rate for the period was 2.83 percent, compared with 9.48 percent in January-May last year.
