Opposition leader criticizes healthcare policy
June 18, BPN. A Belarusian opposition leader has criticized the government’s healthcare policy in an address on the Medical Worker Day.
Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja pointed out the lack of hospitals and doctors and low salaries in healthcare as compared to law enforcement.
At the same time, she thanked the medics for the heroism they show in these troubled times.
Belarus has 308,000 medical staff, including 51.500 doctors, according to the health ministry.
Last year, Minsk’s health official Alena Bohdan admitted that the city faced a shortage of general practitioners, district pediatricians and emergency physicians. Overall, the country needed thousands of doctors, nurses and orderlies, according to Euroradio.
