Łukašenka unhappy with Belarus’ economic performance despite signs of recovery

June 22, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has told officials that he was unhappy with Belarus’ economic performance in the first five months of 2023.

“Statisticians have published the results: gross domestic product amounts to 100.9%,” Łukašenka’s press office quoted him as saying. The 2.5-percent growth in investment in fixed assets is not enough to meet the projected targets even for the first six months, he noted.

Belarusian authorities projected a 3.8-percent economic growth for 2023 with investment in fixed assets slated to rise by 22.3 percent. The government is determined to keep inflation under eight percent.
