Over 80 percent protesters support Belarus’ EU future – poll

June 26, BPN. More than 80 percent of Belarusian protesters would support Belarus’ accession to the European Union if a referendum on the move were held “next Sunday”, according to a survey conducted by the Center for New Ideas/National Poll.

The researchers polled 4,000 respondents on Telegram and Viber in May. Of them, 2,127 were still in Belarus. Hienadź Koršunaŭ, senior researcher at the Center for New Ideas, pointed out that 55 percent of participants chose to be polled in Belarusian.

Some 90 percent of Belarusian speakers and 83 percent of Russian speakers supported a European future for Belarus.

Some 90 percent of respondents in both language groups would vote against a Belarus-Russia merger in the referendum.

More than 90 percent of respondents in both groups stated that Belarus should be independent and that relations with Russia should be based on international treaties.
