July 10, BPN. A judge in Hrodna will begin hearing a case against a prominent reporter and a disbarred lawyer this afternoon, according to a schedule of trials. They have been charged with extremism for political reason, human rights activists say.
Journalist Pavieł Mažejka led a non-governmental organization called Center of Urban Life, which was shut down by the prosecutors last year.
Lawyer Julija Jurhilevič defended regime critics facing prosecution.
Both were arrested in 2022.
Judge Maksim Fiłataŭ will open the trial at the Hrodna Regional Court at 2:15 p.m.
