July 26, BPN. Inspectors carried out over 500 tax audits in the first six months of the year and found 33.1 million rubels (over $13 million) in cash hidden from taxation by economic entities, the Belarusian tax ministry has said.
Undeclared cash proceeds are one of the main sources of off-the-books salary payments, it said.
Tax evasion is a serious charge in Belarus and has been used as a pretext to arrest and prosecute independent journalists and activists who have been critical of Alaksandar Łukašenka’s regime.
