Łukašenka slams UN Secretariat for favoring big powers

July 27, BPN. Alaksandar Łukašenka has accused the UN Secretariat of preferential treatment for large countries, according to his press office.

“As one of the founding members of this organization, we cannot look calmly at what is going on,” Łukašenka said at a meeting with the country’s permanent representative to the United Nations.

He asked Valancin Rybakoŭ if Belarusian diplomats should be reoriented towards more important work than dealing with UN functionaries.

Rybakoŭ replied that the United Nations is more than a building or a secretariat. “We work primarily with nations that are represented in this organization, not with international officials,” he said.

According to the envoy, Łukašenka instructed the permanent mission to the United Nations to step up its work with with member states.
