Opposition launches online solidarity marathon to support Belarus’ political prisoners
July 29, BPN. The 12-hour online marathon of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners “We Care!” has started at 10:00 am.
The fundraiser organized by Volha Harbunova of the opposition transition cabinet aims to collect money to help Belarusians convicted on politically-motivated charges and their families.
Funds can be donated via the salidarnasc.com website. As of noon, donations exceeded €100,000.
The organizers urged the Belarus-based viewers not to share any information online for safety reasons and to make donations through their friends and family members who are currently abroad.
Donations are intended for foundations, initiatives and organizations that assist political prisoners and their families. A supervisory board will be in charge of their distribution.
Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja, Pavieł Łatuška of the Warsaw-based National Anti-Crisis Management and prominent exiled artists confirmed their participation in the marathon.
Over 20 independent media outlets are streaming it on their YouTube channels. BPN is one of the media partners of the event.
