Fundraiser for Belarus’ political prisoners collects over €0.5 million

July 31, BPN. A fundraiser in support of Belarusian political prisoners and their families collected a total of €574,417 over the past weekend.

More than 20 independent media outlets advertised the event and streamed it on their YouTube channels.

This week, the collected funds will be distributed among 13 initiatives and foundations that assist political prisoners, said Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja.

A supervisory board headed by Volha Harbunova of the opposition transition cabinet will be in charge of the funds’ distribution.

The initiatives will have two months to deliver aid to political prisoners and their families with the final report to be made public in November.
