Bundestag adopts resolution in support of democratic Belarus

November 8, Pozirk. The German Bundestag voted for the resolution “For a democratic Belarus in the European family,” prepared by the Social Democratic Party, Alliance 90/The Greens and the Free Democratic Party from the ruling coalition.
It urges Alaksandar Łukašenka and his officials to stop politically-motivated persecution, release all political prisoners, create conditions for free and fair elections and immediately stop supporting Russia’s war on Ukraine.
German MPs also said democratic Belarus should be welcomed in the European family.
Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja attended the Bundestag debates on November 8. The right-wing radical Alternative for Germany party opposed the resolution, while the left-wing MPs abstained from the voting, her aide Franak Viačorka told Pozirk.
The resolution can serve as a basis for similar resolutions across Europe, while the Belarusian opposition can use it to advocate the interests of exiled Belarusians and shape its strategy and policies, he noted.
