Opposition politician hails Sikorski’s appointment as foreign minister of Poland

December 13, Pozirk. Radosław Sikorski should ensure continued Warsaw’s support of the democratic aspirations of the Belarusian people after his appointment as Poland’s foreign minister, said Pavieł Łatuška of the National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM).
Sikorski is well aware of the current Belarusian situation, he added.
“We hope for his support in using all possible available international mechanisms to bring [Alaksandar] Łukašenka and his accomplices to international criminal responsibility,” the NAM’s press office quoted him as saying. Łatuška specifically noted Belarusian authorities’ crimes against the Belarusian people and war crimes linked to the illegal transfers of Ukrainian children.
Belarusians want to live in an independent, democratic and European state, which is also in the national interests of Poland, he said, noting that the Belarusian opposition can contribute to a joint strategy. As one of the largest European Union countries, Poland may play an important role in shaping the future EU policy towards Belarus, the politician stressed.
