Three injured as bridge collapses in Hrodna region

January 8, Pozirk. Three people have been injured as the old bridge over the Nioman river collapsed near Bielica in the Hrodna region, the health ministry reported.
The victims were diagnosed with head injuries, fractures and damage to internal organs and chest. Two were hospitalized in the intensive care unit in Lida, while the third victim is undergoing additional medical tests.
The bridge span that has collapsed at 10:23 am was not used, and the victims were workers dismantling it, the emergency ministry said. One of them is an excavator driver who ended up in the water.
That was not the first such incident recorded in Belarus recently. In late June 2023, a bridge collapsed under a truck in the Homel region.
Two years ago today the pedestrian part of the bridge over the Niamiha Street in central Minsk also collapsed after $1.5 million worth of repairs in 2017. No injuries were reported.
