Alleged KGB spy arrested in Poland
January 9, Pozirk. Polish security forces arrested on December 20 a Belarusian woman suspected of spying for the Committee for State Security (KGB), infosecurity24.pl reports.
For three months, she had been passing information about exiled Belarusians and diaspora activities in Poland to the KGB, Polish prosecutors said.
Polish security officers reportedly conducted searches, seized data storage devices and interviewed witnesses across Poland.
The woman was charged with conducting operations against Poland for foreign intelligence.
The Polish court upheld prosecutor’s request to hold the suspect in custody for three months, citing possible escape attempts.
That was not the first instance of Poland accusing Belarusians of spying. On December 19, a judge in Lublin sentenced 14 foreigners, three Belarusians among them, to prison terms ranging from one month to six years on charges of spying for Russia.
Two months earlier, two Belarusians went on trial in Poznań on charges of spying for the Belarusian military intelligence.
