Migration policy set to lure back Belarusian emigrants

January 25, Pozirk. The government’s migration policy concept for 2024-2028 expresses concern about “an outflow” of Belarusians who go abroad to work or live permanently, says the document published on the National Legal Internet Portal.
The concept links the trend to economic and social factors, geographical location, as well as “the political situation and migration policy in neighboring countries.”
Additional measures are needed to ensure “attractive tax, social and other conditions to increase the inflow of high-skilled foreign labor force into the country,” its authors stress.
The migration policy should focus on “voluntary resettlement in the Republic of Belarus for permanent residence of persons with similar spiritual values,” the paper says. It should provide for measures to encourage the return of Belarusian emigrants, the document says.
The interior ministry together with other ministries, state agencies and the National Academy of Sciences have three months to adopt specific measures.
More than 200,000 Belarusians left the country for various reasons in 2021 and 2022, Alaksiej Biahun, the interior ministry’s top migration official, told journalists about a week ago.
