Interior ministry brands Politzek.me rights initiative extremist group

April 3, Pozirk. The interior ministry branded a group of people who set up, ran and supported the Politzek.me online human rights initiative as an extremist group on April 2, its website says.

The move comes six months after its website and social media were labelled “extremist” content.

Authorities identified former theater producer Ina Kavalonak as the group’s coordinator and added the website, social media and email associated with the initiative to the extremist group designation.

Founded by the team of former presidential hopeful Viktar Babaryka in November 2020, Politzek.me advocates the rights and interests of Belarusians persecuted on politically-motivated grounds.

Authorities in Belarus have equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.
