RFE/RL launches podcast series about Łukašenka’s prison system

April 3, Pozirk. Radyjo Svaboda, RFE/RL Belarus Service, has announced the release of a podcast series The BELAG Archipelago, dedicated to the punitive system set up by Alaksandar Łukašenka and his officials to persecute political opponents.
Named in an apparent reference to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn The Gulag Archipelago, the seven-episode series will focus on the structure of the Belarusian penal institutions and officials who give orders to torture political prisoners and let them die behind bars.
The series will feature stories by people who suffered from politically-motivated persecution in Belarus, former law enforcers, human rights defenders and Nobel Prize winner Śviatłana Aleksijevič, Radyjo Svaboda said.
The first episode about arrests, police violence and torture at the Akreścina pre-trial detention center in Minsk is already available on YouTube and major podcast platforms.
