April 19, Pozirk. ONT show host Ihar Tur praised authoritarianism and dictatorship as “the best government systems, especially for the Slavs” at a meeting with university and college students streamed by the state-run Minsk-Novosti on YouTube.

“[Alaksandar] Łukašenka is an authoritarian leader,” Tur acknowledged. “When something happens and things go wrong, you need a person to tell everyone . . . where to go, what to do and who must shut up and work.”

Łukašenka, who has been in power since 1994, will have to go sooner or later, he added, noting that it would happen rather later.

A drawback of authoritarianism is that “the next president after Łukašenka will hardly be able to do what Łukašenka does,” he said, adding “to put it straight this is impossible.”

That is why the Belarusian ruler is strengthening the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly to prevent mistakes and manipulations by the next leader, Tur explained.

Belarus may go through one or two democratic electoral cycles before a new strong leader emerges to restore authoritarian rule, he said, noting that Belarusians will face a “billion problems” without the “dictatorial supervision.”
