April 24, Pozirk. Belarus is developing a laser weapon “based on new physics principles,” Viktar Tumar, deputy head for research at the General Staff, has said, speaking at a defense show in Minsk.
The military wants Belarus to have Belarusian-made weapons, the defense ministry’s press office quoted him as saying.
In June 2023, the Minsk-based LEMT company sanctioned by the United States, began mass production of a laser gun, which can destroy drones at a distance of up to six kilometers. The laser allegedly can damage plastic, aluminum and bricks.
About a month later, the 38th Airborne Assault Brigade trained in operating laser weapons under simulated combat conditions.
