May 1, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide discussed ways to close loopholes in Western sanctions against authorities in Minsk, her aide Franak Viačorka has told Pozirk.

One of them is linked to rerouting Belarusian potash giant Białaruśkali’s exports via Russia after Lithuania stopped transit of Belarusian cargos and the United States imposed sanctions on Biełaruśkali in February 2022.

Cichanoŭskaja also discussed the legalization of Belarusians and lobbied for inviting Belarusian pro-democracy activists to meetings of Nordic regional forums, including the Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic-Baltic Eight.

Norway has allocated funding to support Belarusian media projects and public initiatives within the Nordic grant program and will continue to fund scholarships for Belarusian students at the European Humanities University in Vilnius, Viačorka noted.

Oslo will also support Belarusians who suffered from politically-motivated persecution, he added.

The opposition leader visited Norway on April 29-30.
